Confessions of a Closet Catholic

Confessions of a Closet Catholic is a novel by Sara Littman is the story of a young Jewish girl who is going through a soul searching process as she grows into a teenager and takes interest in her religion. She explores her different options and decides she wants to try and be catholic like her best friend.

I think this novel is a great read for all teenage girls in middle school, especially those who are going through a period of soul searching. The only thing I have to call out this book on is its attitudes toward Catholicism. It seemed to me that a lot of the catholic portrayals are very stereotypical in this novel. It could be argued that this is how a young girl does see the religion from the outside however.

I would recommend this book for a lot of summer reading programs where students could take their own lessons and meanings from the novel. overall i think it was a really great book.
